Out of all the green products
on the market today I am currently sold on a combination of EPSCrete,
a
custom
steel frame (my own design) and Sprayed Polyurethane
Foam to build with.
This blend of
technologies produces buildings that
are sustainable, cost
effective, environmentally friendly,
energy efficient, non allergenic and strong enough to
last for generations.
My fifteen years experience
building custom log homes allows me to take these three products and
blend them with log floor / roof systems and log accents to make these
homes works of art. (See About Owner Page)

Ferrocement
(LFC) - A key in homes for the homeless and a very versitle ingredient
for concrete construction.
Spraying or hand applying concrete over chicken wire with wild results. A staggering amount of information on all aspects of concrete use from water tanks to homes and boats. Check out the Tirolessa Mortar Sprayer for applying FC (ferrocement). Check out some of the wild projects here. I am intrigued by the possibility of building with two layers of ferro-cement and filling the void with cellular concrete or maybe EPS/Styro Crete? • Reinforcing Fiber
For Concrete - Essential ingredient (to me) in
almost any
concrete mix
There are many different types of fibers sold to
reinforce
concrete.
Here are two I have had experience with.
Natural Basalt Fiber. http://www.basaltfm.com/eng/fiber/application.html Jesse and Eugene are mixing this with the cellular concrete for added strength. Completely natural. HELIX stainless steel fibers are the most interesting addition to concrete I have seen. Putting HELIX fiber in concrete almost eliminates rebar. No joke. - See: http://www.helixfiber.com/index.html Nycom 800-456-9266 http://www.nycon.com/ Kuraray RECS15fiber-8 fibers are supposed to be unique in that they bind with the concrete. • Concrete Additives - Modern concrete is likely to
contain additives designed to enhance performance and workability
I just found
Enhance ICD Inc.(403) 998-5505 (Cell Canada), (702) 715-4027 (Cell USA) http://www.enhance-solutions.com Enhance ICD makes several interesting products to enhance concrete and mortar performance. I am most interested in their cement hydration catalyst (PMT). Sounds like it is performs miracles in concrete. Here is some technical stuff on PMT: http://ferrocement.net/flist/index.php?topic=169.65;wap2 • Cementitious

Blow concrete in a wall

insulation? Certainly wouldn't
burn. Bugs won't like it. Could not get much greener.
• Ceramic
Concrete Board - Magnesium Oxide Board or MgO Board
This product replaces drywall, wall sheathing,
roof sheathing,
floor
decking,
etc. MgO board is also used for poured in place concrete forms. The MgO
board is left in place after the forms are stripped. The MgO can then
be finished. Water proof, mold proof, fire proof, insect proof. WOW!Magnesiacore.com MgO Board http://magnesiacore.com/ 905-794-1333 - sells MgO board. I was quoted about sixty five cents a square foot for 12mm x 4' x 8' sheets delivered to Oklahoma City. Jonathon Hampton with the Ceramic Research Institute comes highly recommended 479-899-7053. Check out this Wikipedia article on MgO wallboard: http://www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnesium_oxide_wallboard MBP Magnum Building Products http://www.magnumbp.com/ 813-314-2202 DRAGONBOARD http://www.dragonboard.com/ 866-447-3232 CeraTech 800-708-7963 http://www.pavemend.com/ ceramic cement products NCI Panel Systems http://www.ncisteel.com 845-565-1000 makes modular panels using MgO board. They ship the panels - you assemble them and pour them full of cellular concrete. Wa La you have a building. Interesting. • Tools For Working

Depending
on the application I use a sprayed polyurethane roof system rather than
the expanded polyurethane products. This amazing product has many
advantages over most roof systems. The link here takes you to a site
that can tell you more than you probably want to know. Trust me it is
an excellent choice for many different applications. Sprayed
polyurethane is about the best insulator I know. Sprayed Polyurethane is even used on the space shuttle. |

Sandtec produces Tarm boilers that can be fired with a variety of fuels. The addition of these products to your construction project assures that you will be able to heat you building and provide all the domestic hot water you will ever need, No matter what the weather or your gas or electric companies do. They also assure that this energy will not be subject to only one source. If wood is readily available (cheap) you can heat with wood. Tarm's high tech boilers operate at over 80% efficiency. |
| Discount Air Compressor & Generator Company - Multi-Fuel Equipment |
| sells a multi fuel generator (Honda Model LV-105EI) that
will run all of your electric needs in an emergency and runs on the
same fuels as the Tarm boilers (except wood). With this generator you
will be totally immune to acts of nature and your local energy
suppliers grid. The Model LV-105EI is large enough that you could
probably sell electricity to your neighbors (10,000 Watts)! They have a
variety of natural gas and LP gas models that would work equally well (except on gasoline) and at a more reasonable price. |
